The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), signed by President Bush on January 8, 2002, reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) and incorporates most of the major reforms proposed by President Bush in his own No Child Left Behind framework for education reform, particularly in the areas of assessment, accountability, and school improvement.  This broad legislation has implications for all Mississippi schools.

The legislation has four guiding themes:

    Accountability and Assessment
    Parental Involvement
    Research-Based Programs (including High-Quality Educators)
    Flexibility
